Sunday – Winter Lodge
Meet at Harvey Clark at 6:45 AM
We will be leaving by 7:15 AM SHARP. We will caravan together to the lodge.
ALL people attending (including parents or siblings) MUST complete a Scouting America Medical Form in order to attend. You will be turned away at meet-up without one. This is a requirement from National. We cannot accept digital copies. You must print out the form and bring it on Sunday.
Scouts have use of the Aubrey Watzek lodge from 9AM until 4PM. We will be cleaning the kitchen and closing it down at 2PM. The lodge is heated with restrooms, a fireplace, games and of course a hill outside for tubing (all tubes provided) and a snowman building! No outside sleds or other things are permitted to go down the sledding hill.
· Depending on road conditions and traffic it takes about 2 hours to go to the lodge. There will most likely be snow on the roads. Consider carpooling with another family if needed.
· You will need to be prepared for winter driving conditions. Please ask in discord if you would prefer to carpool with someone who is comfortable driving in winter conditions. You may want to carry chains/snow socks or have traction tires.
– Each vehicle will also need a Snow Park permit which should be purchased prior to meeting up Sunday morning – they are $4 each. Permits can be purchased at most sporting good retailers. More info can be found here.
Items to bring:
· Warm Clothing, sufficient to have replacements if clothing gets wet
· Warm boots – for walking through snow
· Helmet – while a snow helmet may be nice a bike helmet will do just fine. It is required that all children sledding on the hill must wear one. There will be some available at the cabin however it is recommended you bring one that will fit your children.
· Cub Scout Essential 6 (not required, but good to encourage the scouts to carry at least some first aid)
· A backpack/Sled for transporting gear to lodge from the parking lot (not for use on the tubing hill). All items need to be hiked in. The parking lot is about a 1/8 of a mile walk with some areas of deep snow.
· Items for lunch/snacks
· The lodge has a kitchen with microwaves, a range and ovens but very little in the way of pots/pans and no utensils. If in doubt, bring a sack lunch.
Additional Information can be found on the Councils’ Winter Lodge page
